Wholesale Trade
"Where do you go to purchase merchandise for your furniture store, a new oven for your bakery, or textiles to start your clothing line? A wholesale trade establishment.
Establishments in the Wholesale Trade industry operate as “middle men” between manufacturers and consumers. Unlike establishments in the Retail Trade industry, wholesalers do not sell items directly to the public for personal use. Instead, they sell goods to retailers, manufacturers, and other institutional and industrial clients such as restaurants or hospitals.
The merchandise sold by wholesalers is typically large, expensive goods such as machinery and equipment, or products purchased in very large quantities. The establishments that buy goods from wholesalers re-sell them directly to consumers, use them in the production process as raw materials or supplies, or keep them for business or industrial use.
Wholesalers sell from offices or warehouses, often located in industrial areas. They typically have little or no merchandise on display, do not solicit walk-in customers, and do not advertise to the general public. Instead, they do most of their business by telephone, in-person marketing, and advertising to targeted customers. This industry is built on strong ties between buyers and sellers and by cultivating long-term relationships with clients." ~Career Cruising database
